In September, 1983, Michael Gotfredson, fondly referred to as Mike G. or Chief Runner, founded Road Runner Sports to provide sports minded people with an alternative; the ability to buy quality fitness products at great prices. Back then, Road Runner Sports was just a garage space in Del Mar, California and on the first day of business, the lone employee took seven orders.
Over twenty years later, RRS can attribute its successes to the special one-on-one relationship it enjoys with their customer. That relationship has flourished because their employees (now over 300!) make the most of every opportunity to interact with each customer.

Road Runner Sports' size and locations may have changed, but the one thing that remains constant is their commitment to their customers, and their passion for running and fitness.

Raise the Bar is proud to be affiliated with the Roadrunner stores in both Seattle and Kent.

Running Background:

Although I’ve always been active, I never would have considered myself a “runner” until about three years ago.  In high school I played a multitude of sports, and was a collegiate soccer and ice hockey player (Div III) and then played rugby while in grad school.  I completed my first marathon in 2001, but didn’t run again until the Seattle half-marathon in 2004.  Since June 2005 I’ve completed 20 marathons, one 50K and one 50 mile ultramarathon.  I’ve found my passion!

Running accomplishments: Marathon Maniac Member #557; level 3  (3 marathons, 1 ultra in 6 weeks), PRs: Marathon = 2:59:57; 50 Mile = 9:48 (White River) 50K = 4:01:41 (Mt. Si); 5k = 18:16, Seafair Marathon: 19th overall; 3rd in division, Tacoma Marathon:  7th overall; 2nd in division, Mt Si 50K: 4th overall; 2nd in division, Capital City Marathon: 3rd in division, Whidbey Island Marathon: 14th overall
